Cirro admits diplomatic Pressure following Pursuit of recognition from Israel

The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), has acknowledged that his administration is facing growing diplomatic pressure after seeking recognition from Israel.

Speaking in an interview lasting nearly thirty minutes, Cirro said several Arab and African countries that previously maintained engagement with his administration have scaled back their interactions due to the move.

He noted that the decision to pursue recognition has triggered resistance from states opposed to Israel’s policies in the Middle East, describing the reaction as a significant political challenge for his government.

“We are feeling the rejection from Arab and African countries and others who oppose the recognition we sought with Israel,” Cirro said, adding that he hopes those countries will reconsider their position after reviewing Somaliland’s historical and political context.

Cirro also addressed recurring criticism concerning Israel’s actions in the Middle East, an issue that has frequently surfaced in discussions about Somaliland’s diplomatic outreach.

The remarks come amid continued debate over Somaliland’s quest for international recognition, which remains opposed by the Federal Government of Somalia and has drawn mixed reactions across the region and beyond.
