Somali Prime Minister, Chinese Ambassador discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Saturday held talks with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, Wang Yu, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors as Somalia continues its post-conflict recovery.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), the meeting centered on “accelerating collaboration in security, economic development, trade, investment, and diplomatic relations” . The discussions highlighted Somalia’s ongoing efforts to rebuild national institutions and stabilize the country.

During the meeting, China reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia through investment, development programs, and stability initiatives. Prime Minister Barre welcomed Beijing’s continued backing, particularly in areas related to national sovereignty, territorial integrity, infrastructure reconstruction, and humanitarian assistance.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of strategic partnerships in supporting Somalia’s recovery and long-term development, noting China’s role as a longstanding partner in the Horn of Africa.

The Chinese Ambassador reiterated his country’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Somalia and support initiatives aimed at promoting peace, economic growth, and sustainable development.

Somalia and China have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with cooperation spanning infrastructure development, humanitarian support, and capacity-building efforts.
