Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held high-level discussions with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, at Villa Somalia, focusing on bilateral relations, regional security developments, and broader international issues affecting the Horn of Africa.
According to a statement shared from the Presidency, the meeting underscored the “strong and long-standing partnership between Somalia and Türkiye, with both sides reviewing ongoing cooperation across multiple sectors” .
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed appreciation for Ankara’s continued support in Somalia’s reconstruction efforts, highlighting Türkiye’s role in infrastructure development, humanitarian assistance, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening state institutions.
The discussions also covered counterterrorism cooperation, with both parties reaffirming the importance of sustained coordination in addressing security challenges in Somalia and the wider region.
In addition, the two sides exchanged views on evolving geopolitical dynamics in the Horn of Africa, including regional stability and international engagement in support of Somalia’s recovery and long-term development.
Türkiye remains one of Somalia’s key strategic partners, maintaining a significant presence in development projects, humanitarian programs, and security cooperation initiatives. The latest engagement reflects continued diplomatic coordination between Mogadishu and Ankara amid ongoing efforts to consolidate stability and economic recovery.
