The Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) have launched a series of airstrikes targeting key Al-Shabaab bases in the Ruunnirgood and Ceeldheer districts, according to State media . The coordinated aerial operation, which spanned the Middle Shabelle and Galgaduud regions, was carried out over the past 24 hours, according to state media reports.
The airstrikes specifically targeted “remote areas under the control of Al-Shabaab in the towns of Run-Nirgod, Masagaway, and El-Dher.” These regions have long been considered strongholds for the group, which has used them as bases to orchestrate attacks across Somalia.
In addition to the loss of life, the bombings reportedly also destroyed several vehicles and other key infrastructure used by the militants as safe havens.
The airstrikes mark the latest in a series of aggressive actions by the Somali government to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s network and disrupt their operations.
