Somali government forces, backed by local militia from the Hiiraan region, launched a military offensive early this morning targeting Al-Shabaab hideouts along the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
The troops have reportedly began their operation from Ceel-Hareeri in Hiiraan, moving toward a location in the bushland where Al-Shabaab fighters were reportedly gathering. According to Somali state media, heavy fighting is currently ongoing in the area.
This operation is said to be part of a series of recent offensives against Al-Shabaab militants along the Hiiraan–Middle Shabelle frontier, an area under the administration of Hirshabelle State.
Local and government forces have intensified their campaign in the region in recent days, aiming to dismantle Al-Shabaab strongholds and restrict the group’s movement between the two regions.
Reports from the frontline indicate casualties on both sides, with deaths and injuries resulting from the clashes. However, official figures have not yet been released. The operation is said to be ongoing.
