EU Reaffirms Support for Somalia After Mogadishu Suicide Bombing

The European Union has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Somalia following a tragic suicide bombing on Sunday outside the Damaayo military facility in Mogadishu, which claimed the lives of several army recruits.

EU Spokesperson Anouar Dandachi expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the attack. He emphasized the EU’s continued solidarity with Somalia in its struggle against terrorism.

“The European Union stands with Somalia during this painful time,” Dandachi said, reiterating the bloc’s commitment to supporting peace, stability, and the strengthening of Somali security institutions.

The bombing, which occurred near a military training site where new recruits were gathering, marks another devastating blow to Somalia’s ongoing efforts to combat insurgent groups and stabilize the country.

The EU remains one of Somalia’s key international partners, providing security assistance, humanitarian aid, and support for governance and development, even as the country faces persistent threats from extremist violence.
