Somali Finance Minister meets Italian ambassador to discuss economic reforms.

Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Bihi Egeh, held discussions on Sunday with Italian Ambassador Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, focusing on advancing Somalia’s economic reforms and strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

According to a statement posted on X by the Ministry of Finance, the meeting underscored Italy’s continued role as a key partner in Somalia’s reform agenda. “Minister BihiEgeh held a productive discussion with Italy inSomalia Ambassador Pier Mario Daccò Coppi. They discussed Somalia’s economic reforms and strengthening bilateral relations further. Italy is a valuable partner in our reform journey,” the ministry said.

The talks are part of Somalia’s broader efforts to consolidate international support for its economic transformation, particularly in areas such as fiscal discipline, debt relief, and institutional capacity-building. Italy, a longstanding ally, has been actively engaged in supporting Somalia’s development and governance reforms.

The meeting comes at a critical time, as Mogadishu continues to implement structural reforms backed by international financial institutions, while seeking stronger bilateral cooperation with partners like Italy to ensure sustainable economic growth.

Neither side disclosed further details, but officials indicated that both governments reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including economic stability, investment, and development assistance.
