Somali and Egyptian Officials Discuss Cooperation on Counterterrorism and Development

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati reiterated his country’s unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty, stability, and development during a phone conversation with Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi on Sunday. The discussion followed Fiqi’s recent visit to Cairo, signaling a renewed effort to deepen bilateral relations between the two nations.

In an official statement, Minister Abdel-Ati underscored Egypt’s commitment to assisting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and its efforts to restore peace. He also emphasized Egypt’s readiness to provide technical support to enhance Somalia’s national institutions and address pressing needs for its citizens.

“The strength of our partnership is rooted in mutual respect and shared aspirations for stability and prosperity in the region,” Abdel-Ati remarked, highlighting Egypt’s robust role in fostering peace and security across Africa.

During his visit to Cairo, Minister Fiqi held high-level talks aimed at bolstering cooperation in various sectors, including security, education, and economic development. Egypt reaffirmed its intention to work closely with Somalia to support its path toward recovery and long-term stability.

The Somali Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s continued support and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing common challenges such as terrorism and the rebuilding of national institutions.
