Sheikh Ali Mohamud Hassan (Ali Wajiis), a senior religious scholar in Somalia, issued a statement addressing the country’s political situation particularly the ongoing disputes between the government and the opposition.
In his remarks, Sheikh Ali praised President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for the work he has carried out toward national development. He then urged the president to hold a stable, orderly election as the most effective way to resolve the current standoff between the federal government and the opposition.
“ President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has built a strong national government; what remains is to hold a stable election. And God willing, a solution will come,” the religious scholar said.
He also called on officials from both sides to exercise restraint and to consider the impact of their public statements. He urged them to monitor the messages delivered to the public and to avoid inflammatory rhetoric that fuels conflict, especially through social media and other news platforms.
“The officials are asked to control the words they say when addressing the public, and to stay away from the language that creates hostility language that is then answered in return through media and social networks,” Sheikh Ali said
The statement comes at a time when Mogadishu is reportedly tense due to political disagreements related to the election, with clashes of interest between members closely associated with Villa Somalia and figures from the Future Council of the Country.
