Shabelle River burst its banks, Isolate Jowhar Town.

The town of Jowhar at  Hir-Shabeelle’s center has been isolated from some of its  neighboring  villages  by the floods of the Shabelle River.

Shabelle river burst its banks affecting movements between villages that boarder the river. President Ali Guulwadhe of the region   left Jowhar on a helicopter as the water of the River affected traffic and some neighborhoods in the Central Shabelle Regional Center.

The President of the Hir-Shabeelle, who spearheaded meeting of various sections of the Jowhar community, spoke with zeal  about what they can do to  contribute to a lasting  solution to the ongoing floods that has affected many  families and livelihoods.

“We are facing a very difficult situation for families in the city of Hir-Shabeelle. I am urging you to come up with mechanisms to cope up with the situation, and the floodwaters are in fact a painful event” he said while addressing a section of the leadership and residents.

The leadership of  Hir-Shabeelle  and  the heads of charity organizations , mainly based in Jowhar and Baladweyne, have  spoken several times about addressing the ongoing flooding of the Shabelle River.

In mid-July 2020, as reported by various agencies , the Shabelle River flooded the cities of Jowhar & Baladweyne displacing families  from their homes at time the country was putting in containent measures to control the spread of  Covid-19 .

Heavy rains  has been the biggest talking point in Somalia lately as even in  the capital Mogadishu heavy downpours disrupted services and brought the capital to a standstill .Local media reported deaths of five children in the capital during the heavy rains.
