Secret operations allegedly target opposition voices in Somaliland, reports

Close confidant reports in Hargeisa indicate there are secret operations underway in the city of Hargeisa, carried out by forces affiliated with the current Somaliland administration, aimed at targeting individuals who are said to oppose the policies of President Abdirahman Cirro’s adminstration.

According to the reports, the purpose is to silence opposition so that public attention is not stirred especially while certain people are reportedly being threatened with imprisonment if they speak out about how the administration is being run.

Sources told Mustaqbal that some youth who use social media have received serious warnings, indicating they would be jailed if they continue posting messages that the adminstration finds troubling.

The accounts described are said to be viewed as capable of directly mobilizing public opinion against the administration.

In recent days, it was reported that reporter Khaalid Kaamil was detained, and that serious pressure has been directed at senior religious scholars who have previously opposed actions related to adminstration’s engagement with Israel

At the same time, the reports say additional pressure is being applied to social media users to prevent messages that criticts Cirro’s administration

Several countries have also condemned what has been described as the Somaliland administration’s “Jerusalem move,” criticizing it as a provocative decision that risks deepening regional and tensions.

Opposition figures say the move has drawn widespread backlash, and that the alleged crackdown on critics including social media users, journalists, and religious scholars appears aimed at suppressing public debate rather than addressing the concerns raised by opponents of the policy.
