Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Thursday presided over the graduation ceremony of a new batch of Somali National Army special forces, known as Gorgor, who completed advanced military training at the TurkSom military academy in Mogadishu.
The Gorgor unit, trained with the support of the Turkish government, forms a key part of Somalia’s elite forces in the country’s ongoing counterterrorism operations and national security efforts.
Speaking during the ceremony, Prime Minister Barre praised Turkey’s steadfast support in building Somalia’s security institutions and commended “the strategic military partnership” between the two nations.
He urged the graduating soldiers to uphold discipline, patriotism, and integrity as they begin active duty, emphasizing their crucial role in safeguarding national stability and defeating terrorism.
“The skills you have acquired will not only protect the nation but also bring Somalia closer to lasting peace and security,” said the Prime Minister.
The TurkSom academy remains one of Somalia’s most prominent military training centers, reflecting deepening cooperation between Mogadishu and Ankara in defense and development sectors.
