Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday obtained his voter card, setting an example ahead of the country’s historic municipal elections scheduled for 25 December 2025.
After completing the registration process, the President encouraged residents of Mogadishu to follow suit by registering and participating in the vote, describing the upcoming polls as a critical step in strengthening democracy and returning decision-making power to the public.
The elections are expected to mark a milestone in Somalia’s political transition, as Mogadishu residents prepare to directly elect their local leadership after decades of indirect governance arrangements.
Electoral officials have continued voter registration across the capital, calling on eligible citizens to take part in the process to ensure broad participation and legitimacy.
