President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Urges Religious Scholars to Support Government in Fight Against Al-Shabab

In an address at the 2nd Annual Conference of Somali Religious Scholars, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called on religious leaders to bolster the government’s efforts against Al-Shabab and combat violent extremism through enhanced public awareness. The conference, held in Mogadishu and themed “One Somalia,” commenced on Monday and will continue for three days.

President Mohamud emphasized the critical role of religious scholars in supporting the government’s fight against terrorism and fostering national unity. He urged the attendees to use their platforms to educate the public about the dangers of extremism and the importance of solidarity among Somalis.

The conference, which is being held for the second consecutive year, focuses on promoting unity and togetherness in the country. By convening religious leaders from across Somalia, the event aims to strengthen communal ties and address the ongoing challenges posed by extremist groups.

President Mohamud’s call to action reflects a broader strategy to engage all sectors of society in the fight against extremism and stage ideological war to build a more cohesive and resilient nation. The involvement of religious scholars is seen as pivotal in mobilizing grassroots support and disseminating crucial messages about peace and stability.
