The President of the federal government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said it was very unfortunate for Somaliland Region to take a step after Abdirahman Cirro’s Administration claimed that Jerusalem belongs to Israel, which the president described as holding the city by force.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said the international community of non-Muslim countries feel embarrassed to recognize Israel’s control of Jerusalem, but that the Northern administration acted without reflection and made what he called a very wrong decision.
He emphasized that Somalia cannot recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s territory and said the Northern state’s move was a serious shame, adding that it must be corrected and rejected.
“The non-Muslim world is embarrassed to make Jerusalem a seat of embassy. It is unfortunate that today a flag with shahada is raised there while it is claimed that Israel is the owner of Jerusalem. To our brothers living in the North, we are telling you that they do not support and accept that shame. We must remove it and prevent those who do such actions, and this is an issue that brings anger from Allah.’” he said.
The Northern state administration faced criticism and condemnation from many countries, including those that distanced themselves from the decision by Abdirahman Cirro’s administration after it announced that it would open an embassy in Jerusalem, a city considered among the most sacred and valuable to Muslims, despite the city being controlled by the enemy.
