President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expected to visit Las Anod amid Push to consolidate National Unity.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to the city of Las Anod, in the Sool region, as part of renewed national efforts to strengthen unity and reinforce the federal government’s presence across all regions.

The anticipated visit was confirmed by Ahmed Abdirizak Diriye, Minister of Information for the Northeastern Administration, who described the trip as “a national duty visit” aimed at furthering government engagement with local authorities and communities.

“The President’s visit to Las Anod is an official mission aligned with the government’s broader goal of preserving Somalia’s unity and fostering national cohesion,” Minister Diriye stated, adding that relevant institutions and local leadership are making necessary preparations ahead of the visit.

The visit follows the precedent set by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who travelled to Las Anod in 2025 – a trip that laid the groundwork for the establishment of the Northeastern Administration, whose leadership was elected on August 30, 2025.

The Northeastern Administration has been vocal in affirming its commitment to Somalia’s unity, repeatedly rejecting Israel’s controversial claim of recognizing Somaliland’s independence. Its President, Abdiqadir Aw Cali Firdhiye, has on several occasions reiterated that the region stands firmly with the Federal Republic of Somalia and opposes any external attempts to divide the nation.

President Hassan Sheikh’s visit is expected to further consolidate the government’s ties with the region and demonstrate the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, stability, and national solidarity amid heightened regional and international developments.
