Somalia condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Airports, citing civilian casualties

The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, saying the strikes killed civilians and injured several others.

In a statement issued on Friday, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attacks as a serious violation of international law and a direct threat to Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and regional security.

The ministry expressed solidarity with the Saudi government and people, calling for an immediate halt to attacks targeting civilian infrastructure.

Somalia also stressed that security in the Gulf and the Red Sea is closely linked to its own national interests, given its strategic position along the Red Sea and the wider Horn of Africa region.

The government warned that attacks on civilian facilities risk further destabilising an already volatile regional security environment.

The condemnation underscores Somalia’s support for Saudi Arabia amid rising regional tensions and its broader interest in safeguarding maritime security and stability around the Red Sea.

Somalia has increasingly highlighted the importance of regional cooperation to protect civilian infrastructure, maintain freedom of navigation and prevent further escalation of conflicts affecting the region.
