Mogadishu, Somalia

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, upon his return to Somalia, provided additional insights into the significance of Somalia’s accession to the East African Community (EAC). Congratulating the Somali people on this alliance, he emphasized that joining the EAC would bring forth numerous opportunities for the country, given its abundant resources both at sea and on land.

Addressing the nation, President Hassan Sheikh underscored the importance of being prepared to engage with the broader community of 300 million people from the now eight-member countries of the East African Community. He highlighted the vast market that spans from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, emphasizing the need for strategic preparation to maximize the benefits.

“Let the Somali people prepare to share with 300 million people; this market starts from the Atlantic Ocean and reaches the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea. Otherwise, we will not fully benefit,” stated President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The President also outlined the potential for Somalia to tap into other significant markets and urged the Somali people to embrace competition with their counterparts in the region. The call for preparation and competitiveness aligns with the vision of leveraging Somalia’s strengths to actively participate in and contribute to the economic landscape of the East African region.

As Somalia embarks on this new chapter within the EAC, President Hassan Sheikh’s message resonates as a call for proactive engagement and collaboration, signaling the importance of harnessing the opportunities that come with regional integration.
