The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, has appointed Committee for the Organization of Independence Week.
The committee is chaired by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh.
The committee is made up largely of members from the current Government administration, and it also includes the Governor of Banadir Region who doubles to be the Mayor of Mogadishu, General Hassan Mohamud Hussein Mungaab.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre instructed the committee to prepare high-level events to be held on June 26, marking the commemoration of the independence of the Northern Regions historically under British colonial administration when, for the first time, the flag of the Somali Republic was raised.
A second major event will take place on July 1, commemorating the moment when the Southern Regions gained independence from Italian colonial rule and the subsequent unification between the South and the North, which ultimately led to the formation of the Somali Republic
This action reflects the government’s dedication to recognizing the country’s significant historic landmarks, while also encouraging a strong sense of national unity and patriotism among all citizens.
