Over 100,000 Displaced in Somalia Due to Recent Clashes, OCHA Reports

A recent report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has revealed that ongoing conflicts in Puntland and the Shabelle regions have displaced over 100,000 people. The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate as clashes persist in various parts of the country.

According to the OCHA report, more than 110,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to fighting in northeastern and central Somalia.

Many of these displaced individuals are said to be struggling to find adequate shelter and basic necessities as per reports

The report also highlights that in recent months, tens of thousands of people have been displaced in other parts of the country due to recurring clan conflicts.

These clashes have further exacerbated the already dire humanitarian situation in affected regions.

This wave of displacement comes amid an ongoing military offensive against Al-Shabaab.

The Somali government has launched tough operations to counter the militant group, particularly in the wake of intense battles fought from late February to mid-March this year.

Meanwhile, Puntland authorities have been conducting operations against ISIS in the Bari region. These efforts have led to the recapture of several territories previously controlled by the extremist group.

The escalating conflicts and military campaigns across the country continue to put pressure on humanitarian agencies. Aid organizations have called for urgent assistance to support the growing number of displaced people who are in need of food, shelter, and medical care.
