Somalia condemns drone attack attempt targeting holy City of Makkah

The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned an alleged drone attack attempt targeting the holy city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued on September 17, 2026, the Somali government said Saudi air defence forces intercepted the drone before it could reach the holy city.

Somalia also condemned recent attacks targeting civilian sites inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, expressing solidarity with the Saudi government and people.

The Federal Government said it stands with Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

Mogadishu further affirmed Saudi Arabia’s right to defend its territory, its citizens and the Islamic holy sites against threats and attacks.

The Somali government’s statement comes amid heightened security concerns in the region and follows a series of reported attacks targeting locations inside Saudi Arabia.

Somalia reiterated its support for the security and protection of the Islamic holy sites, including Makkah Al-Mukarramah, which receives millions of Muslim pilgrims from around the world each year.
