Kenya steps up operations to disrupt Al-Shabab in border areas

Kenyan security officials have said they are intensifying operations to disrupt the activities of Al-Shabab fighters with the aim of preventing attacks and limiting its movement between Somalia and Kenya, as described in the report.

Kenya has reportedly deployed specially trained forces in border areas bordering Somalia. The government said these efforts are meant to counter attacks and explosions attributed to ‘AS in parts of Somalia.

The Kenyan forces have reportedly established new outposts and detained people they suspect have links to AS. Some of those detainees have been taken to military security facilities for further investigation, according to the information provided.

A special unit known as Special Operations Group has also reportedly set up ongoing positions in certain border areas. The unit patrols multiple localities, monitoring the movement of people in order to track potential threats.
