Kenya will have its first female chief Justice when justice Martha Koome is sworn in as the country’s CJ.
Members of the National Assembly unanimously on Wednesday voted unanimously to approve the report of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee that recommended her approval to succeed retired CJ David Maraga.
Justice Martha Koome was a judge of the court of appeal until her recommendation to be the Head of the judiciary.
The highly televised interviews had attracted the interests of former Director of Public prosecutions, top lawyer and former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s lawyer in the presidential elections, judges of the judiciary and other top legal minds.
The Speaker is expected to communicate to the President the decision for formal appointment.
