IGAD Foreign Ministers to meet in Djibouti for 74th extraordinary Council Session

Foreign affairs ministers from member states of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) are set to convene in Djibouti on September 15, 2026, for the 74th Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Council of Ministers.

The meeting comes at a critical time for the Horn of Africa and is expected to focus on pressing peace and security challenges facing the region.

According to IGAD, the ministers will discuss regional priorities and seek to advance collective action on issues affecting member states and their populations.

As one of IGAD’s principal policy organs, the Council of Ministers provides a platform for member states to consult, coordinate policies and take collective decisions on matters concerning regional peace, stability and cooperation.

The Djibouti meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for member states to assess developments affecting the region and consider coordinated responses to shared challenges.

The session also comes as IGAD continues to play a role in regional diplomacy and efforts to promote peace, security and economic cooperation across the Horn of Africa.
