In a special meeting today, Mohamud Maallim Abdulle, Chairman of Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA), engaged with the Ministers of Relief & Disaster Management from Jubbaland, Galmudug, and South West regions. The focus was on addressing the fallout from El-Nino, particularly the challenges posed by Fall rains and floods, leading to fatalities, displacement, food shortages, family isolation, and homelessness.
The SODMA Agency collaborated with regional ministers to strategize aid distribution to affected families. Discussions centered on the aid packages intended to alleviate the pressing needs of those grappling with the aftermath of natural disasters. The humanitarian aid, already sent by the Russian Federal Government last week, was acknowledged by the Ministers of Relief & Disaster Management from Galmudug, South West, and Jubbaland—Abdirahman Makawi, Abdinasir Abdi Aroush, and Abdirahman Mohamed, respectively.
Expressing gratitude, the ministers jointly thanked SODMA for its prompt response. The National Disaster Management Agency said it continues its commitment to providing aid, with plans underway to dispatch additional assistance to the affected regional governments in the coming weeks.
