Heavy clashes have erupted in the Qaycad area of southern Mudug, where Somali National Army (SNA) forces are battling Al-Shabaab militants. The fighting reportedly began after government forces, along with local community fighters, launched a multi-pronged assault on known Al-Shabaab positions in the area.
Military officials indicated that several Al-Shabaab hideouts have been destroyed as a result of the ongoing operation. Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, announced significant gains against the militants, stating that strategic positions previously held by Al-Shabaab have been dismantled.
Although the exact number of casualties remains unclear, both sides are reported to have suffered losses. The Defense Ministry has committed to keeping the public informed as further developments unfold.
