The former commander of AMISOM General Ret.Tigabu Yilma
has been appointed as Police Commander for the Amhara Region.
The appointment is said to be intended to help address security and stability challenges currently ongoing in the region.
According to his biography, Tigabu Yilma is an officer from the Ethiopian Armed Forces, but he has also been working in the police sector, bringing significant experience about 40 years in military and security service.
His appointment, as stated in a post he shared on his Facebook page, did not come through the federal government. Instead, he said he was directly appointed to the role by Arga Kebede the Head of the Amhara Region.
Tigabu Yilma has previously held a range of senior positions in the Ethiopian defense establishment, including Director General of Health, Head of Supplies, and as a member of the Defense Council. He has also served in Somalia during earlier assignments.
Security and stability are essential for restoring normal life, protecting civilians, supporting economic activity, and creating an environment where communities can pursue development and reconciliation.
