Fatal Building Collapse in Mogadishu Sparks Outcry Over Safety Oversight.

At least one person has been confirmed dead and several others injured after a 10-storey building under construction collapsed in the Howlwadaag district of Mogadishu early Saturday.

Rescue teams continued to search for any survivors beneath the rubble as of Saturday evening, amid growing public outrage over what many see as a preventable tragedy.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash followed by cries for help, as panicked bystanders rushed to assist before emergency services arrived. The building, still under construction, reportedly showed visible structural flaws in the days leading up to the collapse.

Critics have directed blame toward municipal authorities, particularly the Mogadishu Municipality, for alleged negligence and failure to enforce construction standards. So far, city officials have not issued a public statement explaining how such a large-scale construction project was allowed to proceed without adequate oversight.
