Egypt reaffirms security support for Somalia, pledges cooperation against Al-Shabaab.

Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Somalia’s security, particularly efforts to combat the militant group Al-Shabaab, following high-level talks between senior officials of the two countries.

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, on the sidelines of the Russia–Africa Cooperation Forum. The discussions covered a wide range of issues, including economic cooperation, development, investment, and regional security.

The two ministers reviewed the security situation in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa, with Egypt reiterating its strong support for Somalia’s stability and ongoing state-building efforts. Officials also emphasized the need for sustained international backing for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which plays a key role in maintaining security across the country.

Minister Abdisalam underscored Somalia’s determination to deepen cooperation with Egypt, noting that closer collaboration would strengthen security coordination and contribute to long-term regional stability.

For his part, Dr. Abdelatty said Egypt would continue to work closely with Somali security forces to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and defeating extremist groups. He reaffirmed Cairo’s readiness to assist Somalia in achieving lasting security and stability.

Egypt is among the countries contributing to the AUSSOM mission, which is tasked with supporting Somalia’s security forces and safeguarding key population centers as the country advances its peace and stabilization agenda.
