Eastleigh, Nairobi :Tragic Fire in Kitui Village, Pumwani Leaves Six Dead and Dozens Injured.

A devastating fire swept through Kitui Village in Pumwani, Nairobi, on Tuesday evening, claiming the lives of at least six people and leaving over a dozen injured. The inferno, which tore through more than 50 households in the densely populated Majengo neighborhood, has left many families homeless and grieving.

Emergency response teams, including the Kenya Red Cross, Nairobi City County Fire Department, and local community members, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and rescue victims. According to the Kenya Red Cross, 16 people sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene, while others with more severe injuries were transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

Speaking on the tragedy, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan expressed his condolences to the affected families. “This marks one of the deadliest fires in Kamukunji. My heartfelt condolences go out to the residents of Kitui Village who have lost family members and friends in this fierce blaze, which rapidly engulfed a section of the neighborhood,” he said.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and investigations are underway. Police sources have confirmed that emergency teams are continuing search and rescue operations to locate any additional victims amidst the rubble.

This tragedy highlights the challenges faced by densely populated areas where limited infrastructure and close proximity of structures exacerbate the impact of such disasters. Relief efforts are ongoing to provide support to those displaced by the fire.
