The deputy governor of administration and finance for Baledweyne district, Abdisahal Shuriye Hussein, was tragically killed in a late-night attack on August 9th. The incident occurred around 11 PM in the Hawa Taako neighborhood.
Reports indicate that the armed group responsible for the murder attempted to rob Hussein and his son, along with others accompanying them. The assailants, who were armed, managed to flee the scene with a pistol and a mobile belonging to the deputy governor.
Following the attack, Baledweyne district security forces launched an immediate search for the perpetrators. The killing of Abdisahal Shuriye has exacerbated the ongoing turmoil in Baledweyne, which has been plagued by violence and thefts by armed groups, some of whom wear military uniforms and have been targeting locals for their mobile phones and other valuables.
The murder has sparked outrage among the city’s youth, who are demanding swift justice and the apprehension of those responsible for the crime. Abdisahal Shuriye, a well-regarded young leader in Baledweyne, was known for his commitment to public service, and his death has deeply saddened and angered the community.
