The Banadir Regional Court has sentenced Social media influencer Sadia Malim Ali Hassan alias Sadia Bajaj to three years behind bars, judicial authorities have confirmed.
Announcing the ruling, Salah Dabaan, the Chief Judge of the Banadir Regional Court, said the court found her guilty of offenses related to inciting public ,creating disorder and defamation against institutions and senior officials of the Federal Government of Somalia.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence including video clips shown inside the courtroom, which the court used as part of the case materials to conclude the final judgment.
Despite the defendant and her lawyers putting forward a defense, the court ultimately ruled that she was guilty on the charges.
Mohamed Sheikh Osman the lawyer, who represented Sadia Malim Ali Hassan alias Sadia Bajaj, expressed disagreement with the decision, describing it as a harsh ruling that he said could have been avoided. He stated that they will file an appeal to challenge the verdict at a higher level of the court.
Saadia Bajaaj had been held in custody for 74 days prior to the announcement of the sentence, and she has remained in detention since until the final ruling was reached today by the Court.
