AMISOM provides training to Ethiopian troops on human rights protection.

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has provided training on Civil Protection and Human Rights to the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (EDF) as part of the AMISOM Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

A statement from AMISOM said the training was part of a series of trainings provided by the African Union Police and Military Forces.

Gloria Jaase, AMISOM’s Civil Protection Officer, told Ethiopian troops that they have a responsibility to protect women, children and vulnerable groups in times of conflict.

Jaase pointed out that their training is important in educating soldiers on civil protection &and gender-based violence to take responsibility for addressing or preventing such acts.

Conducted by the AMISOM’s Protection, Human Rights and Gender Unit, the training covered parts of International Human Rights frameworks, Child protection (Children in situations of armed conflict), prevention of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) and Sexual and Gender-based violence (SGBV).

Other AMISOM Police officers said at the forum that peacekeeping operations are important to follow the established rules of protecting civilians but not harassing them.

Joshua Samuel, AMISOM Police Commissioner for Human Rights in Jubbaland, praised the training and said it would shed light on the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM)

AMISOM has increased training on preventing civilian casualties, rape, child recruitment &and engagement with the Somali National Army.
