A new direct flight connecting Mogadishu, Somalia, and Muscat, the capital of Oman, has officially commenced, with the Federal Government of Somalia welcoming the first flight operated by SalamAir.
The new route marks a significant step in facilitating travel and trade between Somalia and Oman, giving citizens of both countries direct air connectivity between their capitals.
The launch ceremony was attended by Somalia’s Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Farah Nooh, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hassan Mohamed Ali (Nadaara).
The launch comes amid strengthening diplomatic relations and cooperation between Somalia and Oman, particularly following the Somali Foreign Minister’s visit to Muscat in April.
The appointment of Oman’s new ambassador to Somalia is also seen as another step toward strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation across various sectors.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Mohamed Ali welcomed the SalamAir delegation, saying Somalia is committed to strengthening practical cooperation that serves travelers while creating new opportunities for business.
The direct flight is also expected to facilitate movement between the two countries, support businesses, and expand trade and tourism opportunities, building on the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Somalia and Oman.
