The Puntland State Administration said its President, Ssid Abdullahi Deni, met today in Garowe with a high-level delegation from the United States, including civilian officials and military officers.
The delegation was led by Acting U.S. Ambassador Justin Davis, and also included officers from AFRICOM, among them Colonel Shane Jones, commander of U.S. special operations in Africa.
The meeting focused on security and the broader political situation in Somalia, particularly the fight against ISIS terrorist groups operating in the region of the Caalmiskaad Mountains.
“We discussed with the United States matters related to security, investment, and the utilization of Puntland’s natural resources, including mining, fishing, and oil.”The statement from the Administration said
Other Puntland officials were present at the talks, which come at a time when recent negotiations between the Federal Government and the opposition reportedly ended without results.
