Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Yoweri Museveni and commander of Uganda’s military forces, has deleted a series of social media posts relating to Somalia and Türkiye following growing controversy.
The now-deleted posts, shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, had drawn criticism for their tone and content, which included remarks interpreted as provocative and potentially damaging to Uganda’s diplomatic relations with both countries.
Commentators noted that the statements combined elements of praise, criticism, and assertive positioning, raising concerns about their implications for regional ties. The unusual nature of the posts led some to speculate that the account may have been compromised. However, authorities in Kampala later clarified that the remarks did not reflect official government positions.
Public debate has since emerged over the general’s use of social media, with some commentators questioning the judgment behind the posts, while others suggested possible external factors influencing their tone.
This is not the first time General Muhoozi’s online activity has sparked controversy. In previous instances, Ugandan authorities temporarily restricted his social media presence following similarly contentious remarks, before later restoring access.
The episode underscores the sensitivity of diplomatic communication in the digital age, particularly when involving senior military figures with significant political influence.
