Somalia: South West Forces Clash with Local Militias in Yaaq Bariweyne,Lower Shabele Region, Casualties reported.

Close confidant sources from Lower Shabelle Region indicate that this morning the situation in Yaaq-Bariweyne area is very tense after South West forces and local militias clashed in the area yesterday with several casualties reported.

The battle that lasted for several hours reportedly killed about 15 people, while more than 20 others were injured from the both warring parties according to close sources.

The two warring parties are still facing each other in Yaaq-Bariweyne, and civilians fear that they will clash again as there are military organisation and activities from both warring parties.

The local residents are migrating and displaced from the town as warring parties remain.

Member of Parliament Dahir Amin Jeesow, who is from the area indicated that the attack was launched but they defended themselves and inflicted fatal losses on the attacking forces, and burned their vehicles.

There is no official statement from the local administration in the Lower Shabelle and South West regions regarding the Yaaq-Bariweyne battle.

The South West has previously accused the militias of establishing checkpoints in the area and thus led to the conflicts in the area.
