Somali Military Court hands 15 year sentence to an ISIS Money transfer agent

A Somali military court has on Monday sentenced a man to life in prison for being part of well coordinated network that wires money to the ISIS militant group through the electronic money transfer system.

Abdirizak Mohamed Abdi was found to be a member of the Al-Shabaab and ISIS militia and has been in Somalia since 2008.

A military court ruled that Abdirizak Mohamed Abdi Jimale had decided to join ISIS in 2016.He has been a member of Alshabaab before joining ISIS.

The Prosecution and investigation team had established that he had transferred $ 400,000 between 2019 and 2020, and has also been accused of being a powerful figure in ISIS. Such huge remittance had at first formed the basis of the investigation.

” Some networks of Ugandan and Ethiopian nationals were the ones the money was handed over to ” a source said who preferred to remain anonymous.

The suspect was first arrested by Somalia’s spy agency – The National Intelligence service (NISA)
