Former Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, responding to a statement from the National Consultative Assembly meeting on the parliamentary election process, described the decision as one that potentially trigger tension .
Sharma’arke described the regional leaders as having succeeded in strengthening their electoral power in terms of their role in selecting the Elders and accessing the Electoral Commission.
The former premier has called for a review immediately to avoid delays in the political process and elections seats in Parliament.
“Regional leaders succeeded in cementing their control over the lower house elections. The communique subverted the integrity of the process and if it does not get the buy-in of the Somali people, it might trigger new tensions and possibly violence. Immediate revision is required” says the former Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid.
