United States reaffirms commitment to supporting Somalia’s unity and independence

The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, held a special meeting with the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Justin Davis.

The meeting between the two leaders addressed the overall situation in the country, particularly the fight against Al-Shabaab (AS), and how to strengthen the role of international partners in these efforts.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the U.S. government for its humanitarian efforts and assistance in reaching those affected by crises.

For his part, Acting Ambassador Justin Davis praised the achievements made by the Somali government in areas of security, politics, and public elections.

He noted that the United States will continue to support the Somali people and government in enhancing security, training forces, and providing humanitarian aid as the Somali government works to assist affected communities.

Ambassador Justin emphasized that the U.S. government fully supports the unity and territorial independence of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The United States is among the nations closely supporting the fight against Al-Shabaab, especially in matters of security and counter-terrorism efforts.
