A delegation from the United Nations is traveling to Las-Anod, the administrative capital of NorthEastern Region to assess the humanitarian situation on the ground and determine how best to respond to requests for assistance coming from affected communities.
The delegation is led by George Conway, Deputy to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Somalia and also the UN humanitarian coordinator.
The United Nations aims to support humanitarian efforts in areas under the Northeast Administration, based on the needs already identified among people who are suffering and require urgent help.
The UN works with the federal government of Somalia to deliver lifesaving humanitarian assistance providing emergency health support, food aid, clean water, protection services, and coordinating aid to ensure help reaches the most vulnerable communities.
