The Kenyan government has increased operations against the group AS in areas along the border with the federal Government of Somalia after armed groups, some of which targeted military bases, administrative facilities, and local communities, intensified their attacks.
Security officials from Kenya’s Mandera County said the operations are a response to recent assaults attributed to AS in the Lafey area, which reportedly caused different types of damage and losses.
Kenya has also step up it’s operations after members of AS are said to be hiding in the borderland areas between Somali regions, where they have carried out attacks causing significant harm.
Nairobi’s government implementing orders previously issued by President William Ruto said it has increased the number of forces monitoring the movements of AS in neighboring areas across the Somalia border.
Kenya has also reported that AS fighters has been weakened following tough and continuous operations along the border, noting that sustained pressure has disrupted its activities and reduced its ability to carry out attacks.
