Turkish diplomats based at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu have in recent hours been actively engaging both the Federal Government of Somalia and the Puntland FMS administration over concerns related to a cargo vessel seized off Puntland’s coast.
The diplomatic efforts are linked to Turkey’s concern for the safety of the crew and military supplies aboard the Sea World, a ship sailing under the Comoros flag that was intercepted by Puntland maritime forces.
The vessel had reportedly departed from Turkey and was carrying military equipment, with its scheduled arrival in Mogadishu originally set for 21 July.
Latest reports now indicate that both sides have agreed for the ship to dock at the Port of Bosaso in Bari region, where the cargo is expected to be publicly inspected and displayed.
As of now, the Federal Government has not issued an official statement regarding the situation. When Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi was reached by Mustaqbal about the ship, he declined to provide any detailed comment.
