Sudanese military officials have accused Somalia’s Puntland Administration of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s ongoing conflict, alleging that the regional government has backed the paramilitary group, which is reportedly supported by the United Arab Emirates.
General Yasser Al-Atta, Sudan’s Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, made the accusations while addressing some of the country’s troops.
He urged the military to take action against foreign interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.
Al-Atta said foreign actors would be held accountable for the atrocities committed in Darfur and Kordofan. He specifically mentioned Puntland, alleging that the administration had facilitated the involvement of mercenaries in the conflict.
He also claimed that Bosaso Airport had become a transit route facilitating the alleged foreign military intervention.
In early September 2026, a United Nations human rights commission report on the situation in Sudan reportedly stated that weapons originating from the UAE had been transported through Bosaso in Puntland and Berbera in Somaliland.
The UAE is said to maintain political alliances with both administrations.
Puntland, led by President Said Abdullahi Deni reportedly maintains close relations with the UAE, which has been accused of supporting the RSF in Sudan’s conflict.
The allegations against Puntland come amid growing concerns over foreign involvement in the war, which has continued to fuel instability and humanitarian suffering in Sudan.
The accusations against Puntland have not been independently verified, and the administration has not been reported to have issued an official response over the allegations
