The administration of SSC Khatumo sent a serious warning to Somaliland against instigating and declaring another war to regain Sool region voicing concerns.
The Minister of Information of SSC Khatumo adminstration Najib Barkhad Warsame indicated that their forces have full power to respond to any invasion from the Somaliland side.
The minister stressed that the SSC forces will prevent any threats from Somaliland, and that they are ready to defend their land.
This warning comes at a time when Somaliland president Muse Bihi Abdi visited some parts of Sool region including Caynaba district, almost a year after Somaliland troops were withdrawn from Sool.
Somaliland army commander Nuh Taani, who accompanied the presidential delegation, said that they are ready to recapture the Sool region, which raised the tension in the region.
Somaliland has been affected by the several months of conflict between Somaliland troops and SSC Khatumo local forces challenging the authority of the self-proclaimed republic, which declared independence from Somalia but remains unrecognized internationally.
On October 19, 2023, the Federal Government of Somalia has officially recognized SSC-Khatumo as an interim administration affirming the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting all efforts for stability in the area.
