South West State leader Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe has held security talks with senior officials of his administration amid growing military pressure from forces loyal to former regional leader Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.
According to multiple sources, Madobe spoke with security officials, some by telephone, urging them to strengthen security in areas under their control and prevent attacks targeting his administration.
The discussions reportedly focused on measures to prevent the temporary administrative headquarters of South West State and other towns, particularly in Bay region, from being besieged.
The recent attack by forces loyal to Laftagareen on Buurhakaba district has raised fresh security concerns and questions about the future of areas controlled by the South West State administration.
The attack has also challenged earlier expectations that the clashes would be confined to Baidoa, the regional capital.
Security officers from both the Federal Government and the South West State administration have reportedly been instructed to launch operations against Laftagareen-aligned forces and Al-Shabaab militants to prevent further attacks on key towns.
The developments come amid heightened tensions over control of strategic areas in South West State, raising concerns about the potential escalation of violence in the region.
