The 8th session of the Federal Parliament of Somalia is set to open tomorrow. A message regarding the reopening of the session has been sent to Members of Parliament who have been away on leave in recent weeks, so they can take part in the proceedings.
According to the Constitution of the country, the session will be inaugurated by the President of the Federal Government of Somalia.
The President is expected to deliver a speech providing an update and briefing to MPs who have returned from their leave.
This session will begin with no new substantive election of leadership. The Parliament will continue under the temporary leadership of the First Deputy Speaker of the House, as the Speaker, Adan Madoobe, has vacated the position after becoming the leader of the South West Administration.
The 11th Parliament of Somalia is currently in its final year under the term established by the Constitution. As several sources have stated, this session may be the last one ahead of the national elections the country is moving toward.
The Federal Government has emphasized that one-person, one-vote elections are a serious priority for the country, and it is working to ensure that the electoral process is on track and credible.
