The Federal Government of Somalia has unveiled a new design for the country’s passport following its official membership in the East African Community (EAC), a regional bloc comprising several African countries.
The new passport design features the words “East African Community”at the top, formally reflecting Somalia’s membership in the regional organisation.
However, several questions remain unanswered regarding the new passport, particularly its official release date, validity period and application process. The Immigration and Citizenship Agency has yet to provide clarification on these matters.
Reports indicate that the issuance of the new passport is expected to begin in early 2027. The government is expected to officially announce when the new document will become available to applicants.
The fee for obtaining the new passport has also not been disclosed, with the Federal Government expected to provide further details in the coming months.
