Further details have emerged regarding ongoing operations in Ceel Baraf, Middle Shabelle, aimed at apprehending the perpetrators of a recent attack that claimed the lives of seven government soldiers.
The Governor of Middle Shabelle, Mohamud Mohamed Nuur, confirmed to the media that the operations, conducted jointly by the Somali National Army (SNA) and HirShabelle forces, have yielded significant results, with two of the suspects now in custody and efforts underway to capture the remaining fugitives.
“We have apprehended two individuals involved in the killing of our national soldiers, who were ambushed while gathering in the area. We are actively pursuing the others, and they will be brought to justice,” said the governor.
He also addressed the current situation in Ceel Baraf, noting that the area remains calm but that local officials, including the village head of Ceel Baraf and some elders, have been detained for alleged negligence in preventing the tragedy.
“We are investigating thoroughly and working closely with the federal government to ensure justice is served. I urge the families of the victims and the Somali public to remain patient as we continue our efforts,” added the governor.
The seven soldiers, part of the Somali National Army, were reportedly ambushed and killed by armed militants while traveling on leave from their base in Xawaadley.
According to local sources, the militants filmed the soldiers after detaining them and subsequently carried out the executions. The soldiers, unarmed due to their leave status, had left their weapons at the base.
Governor Mohamud reassured the public that those responsible for the heinous act would face justice and emphasized the commitment of both the federal and HirShabelle administrations to addressing the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic event, and I want to assure everyone, especially the families of the slain soldiers, that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law,” he concluded.
