Somalia: Tubsan Center Extends Amnesty Plea to Al-Shabaab, Offering Communication Channels for Defection.

In a renewed effort to combat extremism, the Somali government has extended an invitation to members of the extremist group al-Shabaab to seize the opportunities presented by successive amnesties. The call was reiterated by the recently established Tubsan (RightPath) National Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism.

The center, which aims to address the root causes of radicalization, has taken a proactive approach by offering an open channel for al-Shabaab members seeking to defect. It has provided two contact numbers for those interested in leaving the Al-Shabaab organization: +252770000031 and +252770000032, both accessible through mobile and WhatsApp.

“If any al-Shabaab member wants to defect the Center gave the following numbers to reach out: Mobile /WhatsApp No: +252770000031 or +252770000032 or +252620333444”, read the brief statement in part urging targeted individuals to make use of the opportunity.

This initiative signals the government’s commitment to facilitating a peaceful reintegration process for former members of al-Shabaab.
